Our top pick, and the one we disclose hardest

Yesim in Italy

Yesim is the cheapest 30-day 5GB in this comparison and the only travel eSIM we can link that publishes all three big Italian networks. It also pays us more than anyone else here.

Above Ortisei, 2,100m · four bars, which is the whole argument
Quick answerYesim is our pick for most Italian trips for one reason that has nothing to do with price: its own Italy page names TIM, Vodafone and WindTre. No other travel eSIM we can link names more than one, and none of the others names TIM at all. It is also the cheapest 30-day 5GB ($11.15) and 1GB ($2.90) here, with 10GB at $18.59. Two things you should weigh against that: it pays us 18%, the highest rate of the four brands we can link, and its Trustpilot profile was suspended earlier in 2026 during a fake-review cleanup before the score was restored. Yesim is the only one that names its Italian networks and that is why it wins

Four of the six brands on this site will not tell you which Italian operator you are riding. Yesim tells you three.

BrandItalian network, as the brand publishes it
YesimTIM, Vodafone and WindTre — all three named on its own Italy page
HolaflyVodafone Italia and WINDTRE — named, and we earn nothing from it
AiraloWind Tre, plus "+2 others" it declines to identify
SailyNothing published
GigSkyNothing published

Why care? Because Italy's four operators are genuinely different once you leave a city. In Opensignal's December 2025 Italy report, TIM won Consistent Quality at 79.2%, the metric closest to "does the connection actually hold". Vodafone won speed and reliability. WindTre won every 5G category. Iliad, cheapest by far, came second on reliability and remains thinner in remote areas.

On a Rome-Florence-Venice itinerary none of that matters and every plan on this site works. On a Dolomites, Cinque Terre trail, Sardinian interior or Tuscan back-road itinerary it decides your week, and TIM is the network you want. Yesim is the only brand we can link that admits to carrying it. The full TIM page is here.

Yesim is never badly beaten and rarely wins outright above 5GB. It is our pick anyway, because the 80 cents GigSky saves you at 10GB buys you a brand that will not say which network you are on. If your whole trip is inside cities, take the 80 cents. Checked September 5, 2026.

Where the Yesim network advantage actually shows up five places

Being on three networks matters in exactly the places where being on one does not work. Here is where that is true in Italy.

Where you are goingNetwork to preferWhat to expect
Dolomites passes and rifugiTIMAbove the treeline on the Sella and Pordoi passes, coverage becomes a single-network question and the answer is usually TIM. The strongest single reason to pick Yesim.
Cinque Terre trailsTIMThe villages are fine on anything. The Sentiero Azzurro runs behind cliff faces where the incumbent network is the one still showing bars.
Tuscan gravel roadsTIMThe hill towns are covered. The strade bianche between them, where your agriturismo is, are where a second and third network stop being theoretical.
Sardinia, Barbagia and SupramonteTIMThe coast is well served by everyone. The interior is thin on everything and thinnest on Iliad, which no travel eSIM rides anyway.
Milan, Rome, Naples, FlorenceWindTreThe one place the Yesim argument is weak: in cities WindTre has the best 5G in Italy and every brand here reaches it. Buy on price instead.

The Trustpilot history you should know before buying suspended, then restored

Yesim's Trustpilot profile was suspended during a fake-review cleanup earlier in 2026. The score has since been restored and, checked on September 5, 2026, the profile shows 4.3 from 2,942 reviews with no warning banner. We are telling you because we recommend this brand and because the earlier version of this network's sites said "suspended" and that is no longer accurate. Both facts belong on the page.
BrandTrustpilotReviewsWhat that tells you
Saily4.730,542The best record in the category, on a large sample.
GigSky4.36,217Solid, uneventful, mid-sized sample.
Yesim4.32,942Same score as GigSky on a tenth of the reviews, and a suspension in its history.
Airalo4.141,885Largest sample, lowest score, roughly one review in six is a one-star.

The recurring complaint in Yesim's one-star reviews is throttling on plans sold as unlimited, which is consistent with the fact that it publishes no cap number. That is a reason to buy its fixed-data plans and not its unlimited ones, which is exactly what we recommend.

If a spotless record matters to you more than knowing your network, Saily is the honest alternative at $20.99 for 10GB against Yesim's $18.59.

How to buy and install a Yesim Italy plan four minutes on home wifi

  1. Check the handset. Dial *#06#. An EID in the list means the phone takes an eSIM. A carrier-locked phone does not, no matter what the listing says.
  2. Buy the Italy plan, not the regional one. Yesim sells a Europe bundle too. If Italy is the whole trip, the country plan is cheaper; if Switzerland is on the list, neither one covers it. Read this first.
  3. Install before you fly, on wifi. The plan starts counting when it first connects in Italy, not when you install it, so there is nothing to gain by waiting and a working phone to lose.
  4. On landing, switch data to the Yesim line and leave your home line on with data roaming off. If nothing connects, set network selection to manual and try TIM, then Vodafone, then WindTre, in that order. Full setup guide.

Questions on Yesim in Italy

Is Yesim good for Italy?

Yes, and it is our top pick. It is the cheapest 30-day 5GB ($11.15) and 1GB ($2.90) in this comparison, and the only travel eSIM here whose own Italy page names TIM, Vodafone and WindTre. The reservations are a small review base, 2,942 against Airalo's 41,885, and no published cap on its unlimited plans.

Which network does Yesim use in Italy?

TIM, Vodafone and WindTre, all three named on Yesim's own Italy page. That is more than any other brand we can link publishes, and TIM in particular is the network you want in the Dolomites, on the Cinque Terre trails and on Tuscan back roads.

Is Yesim unlimited really unlimited in Italy?

Unknown, which is the problem. Yesim refers to a fair usage policy and never publishes the daily cap, and throttling on unlimited plans is the recurring theme in its one-star reviews. Buy its fixed plans. If you want unlimited with a number attached, Airalo prints 3GB a day and 1 Mbps after it.

Was Yesim suspended on Trustpilot?

It was, during a fake-review cleanup earlier in 2026. The score has since been restored: checked on September 5, 2026 the profile shows 4.3 from 2,942 reviews with no warning banner. We flag the history rather than the current state, because both matter.

Yesim or GigSky for Italy?

GigSky is 80 cents cheaper at 10GB, gives you 500MB free to test, and is far cheaper at 20GB and 50GB. Yesim tells you which networks you are on and GigSky does not. City trip: GigSky. Anywhere with hills: Yesim.

Does Yesim give me an Italian phone number?

No. Yesim's Italy plans are data only, like every travel eSIM on this site. If you need a +39 number for a bank code, a rental car callback or a ZTL permit, that means a local SIM bought with your passport. The options are compared here.
