Airalo's site geo-serves whatever currency it thinks you are in, and a Canadian IP is shown CAD by default, so the figure you see may differ until you switch currency or reach checkout. Twelve sizes is more granularity than anyone else here offers, and it is the main practical reason to buy from Airalo.

Most travel eSIMs sell you a month whether or not you want one. Italy is a long-weekend destination as often as it is a fortnight one, and Airalo is the only brand here that prices for it.

Written out like that, the honest verdict is narrower than the marketing: Airalo's short plans win on headline price by about a dollar and lose on validity by three weeks. Where they genuinely win is the shape of the purchase. If you know you will use 5GB in four days and never touch the eSIM again, paying $10.00 instead of $11.52 for a month you will not use is the tidier transaction, and there is nothing wrong with preferring it.

Wind Tre and Iliad
WindTre is a good network to be on in an Italian city. In Opensignal's December 2025 Italy report it won 5G Coverage Experience at 7.2 of 10 jointly with Fastweb, Time on 5G at 28% and 5G Availability at 85.6%, all the best in the country. If your trip is Milan, Rome, Florence and Naples, riding WindTre is a good outcome and 5G will be the normal state of your phone.
Where the missing TIM matters is everywhere with terrain. WindTre's strength is 5G density in populated places, which is not the same as reach. TIM won Consistent Quality at 79.2%, the metric that tracks whether the connection holds at all, and TIM is the network people fall back to on the Dolomite passes, the Cinque Terre paths and Tuscan gravel roads. Airalo does not list TIM, and Iliad, its second network, is the thinnest of the four in remote areas.
If you want TIM on the list, Yesim names it and costs $19.20 at 10GB against Airalo's $19.00. If you would rather choose the network yourself, a local TIM SIM costs €14.99 for 200GB.

1 Mbps is not nothing. It carries WhatsApp, maps, email and a mediocre video call; it does not carry Netflix or a large upload. Knowing that in advance is the entire value of a published cap. That said, for almost every Italian trip a 20GB fixed plan at $25 to $26 beats any of these on price and removes the question altogether. The full comparison is here.

- Check the handset. Dial *#06#. An EID means the phone takes an eSIM. A carrier-locked handset does not.

What is Airalo Mamma Mia?
It is simply the name Airalo gives its Italy-only eSIM package, the way it names every country plan. There is nothing different about it beyond the branding. What matters is the size and validity you pick, and there are twelve combinations.
Which network does Airalo use in Italy?
Wind Tre and Iliad, both listed with 5G on Airalo's own Italy page (checked 2026). It does not list TIM or Vodafone. If you want TIM on the list, Yesim names it.
Is Airalo unlimited really unlimited in Italy?
